The Pollution Index (PI) is an indicative number with values between 0 to 100. The PI indicates the wastewater quality level; the higher the PI, the more polluted the wastewater is.
The Pollution Index is calculated from multiple input streams (See below) to provide one clear and simple reference to the wastewater quality level. When using a single quality indicator, the more input streams that are added to it, the more accurate it becomes.

The algorithm utilizes the following data to calculate the Pollution Index value:

  • Sector information.

  • Sensor’s data.

  • Lab sampling results.

  • Historical data collected by Kando from utilities around the globe.

PI Value Ranges and Definitions:

  1. 0-29: Clear wastewater quality

  2. 30-49: Medium pollution (Up to 70% likelihood of different pollutants exceeding normal values)

  3. 50-69: High pollution (70-90% likelihood of different pollutants exceeding normal values)

  4. 70-100: Extreme pollution (above 90% likelihood of different pollutants exceeding normal values at an extreme level)
